My Game Prototype

For my game, I have decided to do a slope/subway surfers type of game. The ball will roll down the surface as is it is like subway surfers. Like subway surfers it will move left and right and I will include hurdles it will have to jump and blocks it will have to cross. I will also include some boosters for example things that will make the ball go faster etc. I may include someone or something chasing the ball as well.

I used this tutorial as inspiration for my prototype: How to make a game running game in Unity Like Subway Sufers in 15 min - YouTube

My experience with Unity was stressful If I have to be honest. I am grateful I got something done. However, I badly struggled with the coding. I understand how to read the error notes but my issue is that at one point I could not understand any of the errors. Therefore, I decided to leave the errors and leave the code as it was but give an idea as to what my game would look like. Thankfully, I feel what is working so far is that my game looks visually pleasing. However, I need to work on the main issue of my game, that being my struggles with the code. I plan on doing more tutorials in the future to overcome this issue.

  1. Hey Emma,
Thats great you have made a start with your game! work on it each week and you call be fine. I am creating an endless 3d running game too! I think everyone found it challenging, but there are plenty of online resources to help you through the process.
Once you do the tutorials you will gain more knowledge about coding, I promise.
    Good luck

  2. Hi Emma, I love how you described your experience with Unity, I can see myself in your words. It is great that you have started and it looks great , I really liked the last Unit 4 tutorials and I was even going to change my idea for my game, but not sure if i can do it, wish you not to give up :)

  3. Hi Emma,
So far I can see the progress you've done with your game. The game looks appealing and I hope you'll be able to find the errors in your script and try to make it work because honestly the coding part in unity is confusing and hard to do and harder to find the error but I watched tutorials that helped me in the coding and also followed some of the tutorials we did. Unity is complicated but I am sure your game will work as you want and can't wait to play it. Good Luck in designing your game.

  4. Hey Emma, Wow, your game is looking well so far. I completely understand what you are saying about unity. It can genuinely be a struggle sometimes. It could be the slightest thing, like an odd letter or symbol, and you look at it for so long trying to figure out the error, but it looks like you are getting there with it. It will take time for all of us, especially making our own game. This will be a bit of a challenge for sure. I’m interested in seeing how you will incorporate obstacles into the game and where you will place them. Like, will they all be in the same area or randomly placed for each one? And level design. I’m interested in seeing how you go about that too, but of course, the main thing is that all of your game mechanics work and the game runs how you want it to. I look forward to seeing how this progresses. Best of luck, Emma.

  5. heyy Emma this sounds like a great game I am not much of a gamer but I used to play subway surfer a lot and really enjoyed it. I like the idea you have of including boosters, that will give your game the added oomf. I totally understand your concerns with Unity coding, i am finding that difficult too but take it one step at a time and our weekly tutorials help quite a lot because most of our games follow the same concepts. Good luck.

  6. Hey Emma, great progress on your game so far, I like how simple yet effective it is in terms of what we need to create. You're definitely on the right track and our projects are very similar so at least we can come to each other for help if we're ever stuck!

  7. Hey Emma!
Nice start to your game so far, just keep working at it each week and you'll see at the end when it all comes together how good it will look.
I understand your struggle with Unity, I was like that in the beginning too, but each week it just seems to get that bit easier, hopefully you'll start feeling that way soon too!
Best of luck with the rest of your project!
    Rachael :)

  8. Hey Emma, liking the sound of your game and the start youve made on it! Unity can be tempermental, but with persistence it can work with you (at times lol) keep up the great work and can't wait to see the final result

  9. Hey Emma hope your well,

Your prototype is looking great so far I have to say great job. The you have chosen to go with, Subway surfers style of game is great. I used to love playing sub way surfers on my mams phone when I was younger. Im with you on the struggle with unity, I got hit a few road blocks my self whilst learning my way around with the code. The idea of implementing boosters to your game idea is great. Will definitely make the end experience much more fun for the end user that plays your game.
