Games GDD

Before deciding to go straight into developing a game, what I have learned from this task is that it is important to plan the game you wish to make. This can professionally be done by creating a games design document. This can be on a word or google document but it will help one to know what they want to do and have a structured approach to the game that they wish to develop. This will give you a platform to describe your project before going into production.

What do you put into the document? Well.. for a professional document a title and page content page can be included. To continue one should include a summary of their game, state the type of game, screenings, controls, and mechanics. Not every element of the game needs to be addressed in this document because that is unrealistic but ideas the developer has can be put into the document.

Discussing the game progression is essential in a game design document. This can include the level design. Meaning the mechanics, screening, and gameplay of the levels. The flow and the locations of the game may also need to be discussed in the document. This also includes game development. How will the levels get harder? For example, describing the classes of the enemies. A schedule is also important for the developer to have a p[lan as to what they are doing.

The user experience would also need to be considered. How will this game make the player's life as enjoyable as possible? By confronting them with a challenge with clear and concise guidelines to make the player feel like they are achieving something. What is also to be considered for the user experience is the visuals and audio of the game. What will the graphics look like? What graphics are needed? The audio input will also be a big thing to consider. What sound effects are to be used? Will music be installed for this game?
